Yerevan: Clashes continued for a second day to dominate the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Sixteen people were killed and more than 21 were killed in fighting between the two countries on Sunday. Azerbaijan says six civilians have been killed and 19 injured in what became known as the Cold War. The Nagorno-Karabakh-backed Armenian forces claimed that more than 15 of their soldiers had been killed in the process. It also said it had recaptured territory lost in Sunday’s clashes. Azerbaijani forces have surrounded the Azerbaijani town of Azerbaijan, north of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, according to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.
It was in this context that the strategic areas in Karabakh were captured by their soldiers. Clashes between these countries continued in 2016 as well. More than 100 people were killed during that time. Sixteen people were killed in the fighting in July this year. The Nagorno-Karabakh region is geographically located in Azerbaijan. However, Armenian forces opposed to Azerbaijan’s policies have always dominated it.
